BIOGRAPHY



Luis Henrique New is a Pianist, Keyboardist, Arranger and Composer.

He attended an extension course at UFRGS from 1981 to 1984.

Graduated in Composition from the Federal University of Rio Grande Do Sul/ 2015, Bachelor of Piano in 1984 from UFRGS.

In 1987 he moved to São Paulo and took part in a piano master class with teacher Maria José Carrasqueira.

From 1988 to 1990 he accompanied artists in night shows in São Paulo and throughout Brazil, such as: Jamelão, Martinha, Valdirene and Carmem Silva. With Carmem Silva he travels through various regions of Brazil (Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Rio Grande Do Sul and interior of São Paulo) and still in 1990, he toured the East of the USA in the main cities: Boston, Providence, New Jersey.

In April 1990 he founded the Kuarup Group (exporting the best of MPB) where he started the Europe Via Middle East Project.

At the end of this period, back in Porto Alegre, in 2000 he received the Açorianos de Música Trophy with Banda Venerável Lama and two nominations as best keyboardist (1994 and 2003).

He also accompanies several prominent local artists such as Flora Almeida, Gélson Oliveira, Bebeto Alves, Raul Elwanger and Ângela Jobim.

In 2004 he toured Japan with a Brazilian music projection group. Next, she acts as Pianist for the group Delicatessen, Quarteto de Bossa–jazz, winner of the Tim Award for Best Album in a Foreign Language – year 2007.

In 2009, another nomination for the Açorianos de Música Award as best album and best composer for the work entitled “Prabaticum Esplatifum Brasimbolá”, in partnership with lyricist Luis Mauro Vianna.

In 2011 he produced the soundtrack for a documentary by the artist and sculptor Xico Stokinger of the Pironauta Production Company.

In 2012 he won 1st prize in the Short RBS – “All Balloons Go to Heaven”-Original Track.

In 2015 he participated in the production of the music for the film MUNDIALITO, documentary Sebastian Bednarik (Uruguay).

He currently works as a professor of piano, theory and solfeggio, harmony and perception at the Farroupilha School of Music. In 2023 he played at the Poa Jazz Festival and participated in the International Jazz Day program at Farol Santander in Porto Alegre with Jambo trio, his current project.
